Sign up to gather signatures for the Committee to Ban Fracking in Michigan!
Over 222,000 Michigan voters have now signed our petition! Because this was not enough to submit to the state on the June 1 deadline for the 2016 election (252,523 are required), we are continuing collecting signatures until we have enough to submit, in order to make it onto the 2018 ballot.
The law that says signatures older than 180 days are rebuttably presumed to be stale and void (MCL 168.472a) was changed in June, now imposing a strict 180-day time period. According to this new version, even a valid signature would not count. We filed a lawsuit on June 1, 2016, challenging the unconstitutionality of that law. (You can read the various legal filings on our website under "Lawsuit" menu). We are awaiting a judgment from the Court of Appeals.
In order to get our proposal on the ballot, we must have enough signatures to submit to the state. That's where you come in!
All signatures already gathered will be submitted, so please do not collect duplicate signatures from voters. If they've already signed, we've got them. Both signatures would not count.
We ask everyone to collect at least 200 signatures. Please read the welcome email which contains the information you need to get started. A coordinator will then contact you to provide you with petitions and get you started. Welcome to the team!
